Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The Early Years Foundation Stage includes both Teversham Pre-School and Sparrow Class, Reception. We follow the 'Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage: Setting the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five'.
EYFS Curriculum
Our EYFS curriculum focuses on each unique child, building on their individual starting points and addressing their needs to ensure all children can flourish in all areas of development. The curriculum encourages children to explore, experiment and gain new experiences in a safe and nurturing environment. Our curriculum is based on the individual children’s interests, nature and the seasons using quality texts to encourage a love of reading, books and stories and to support vocabulary development. We support children to develop the learning skills they need and to be curious, inquisitive and independent learners and to reach their potential.

Aims of EYFS at Teversham
The EYFS curriculum aims works with the ‘principles of the EYFS’ to ensure that all children:
·develop positive relationships with both their peers and adults to be safe, happy, confident and resilient learners
·are taught broad knowledge and skills that can be revisited and applied in a range of contexts based on their interests- focusing on the ‘process not the product’.
·reach their potential supported by quality interactions with adults
·develop the learning skills they need to be self-motivated, challenge themselves, think for themselves and be independent learners using the resources in the classroom to support them
·have the opportunity to explore and learn inside and outside and follow their interests, giving children time to lead their own learning with interactions, which support and scaffold, by caring and responsive adults
·encourage a love of reading stories, listening to stories and storytelling and develop their vocabulary and communication and language skills
