Attendance

Good attendance (over 95%) and being on time for the start of the day is crucial in ensuring children get the greatest benefit from their education.

Missed time at school can very quickly accumulate:

  • Attending 4½ days a week = 90% attendance = 4 weeks missed per year
  • Attending 4 days a week = 80% attendance = more than half a term missed per year.
  • An average attendance of 80% or less across a child’s school career adds up to missing a whole 2 years from school.
  • Being late for school reduces learning time. If your child is 5 minutes late every day they will miss three days of learning each year. If your child is 15 minutes late every day they will miss 2 weeks of learning each year.

The register is closed at 8.50am, and children arriving after this time will be marked as late in the register. If children arrive after 9.20am, they receive an absence mark for the whole morning session.

We do appreciate that children get ill and there will be times where they are genuinely not well enough to attend, however minimising other absences is important and we are keen to work with families to ensure this.

Please use the NHS guidance to support you in making a judgement about whether your child is well enough to attend school. Is my child too ill for school?

We want to work with families to overcome any barriers to good attendance and punctuality- please do talk to us about any problems you may be experiencing.
