This year during National E-safety week we ALL learnt how to stay safe online with age appropriate activities. Reception and Year 1 shared stories about Smartie the Penguin and then Reception made posters about keeping safe, Year 1 created a ‘Top 10 Tip’ list to help remind people what to do.
In year 2 we learnt about what personal information is and how important it is not to share this online. The children created examples of how to avoid giving out their information.
Year 3 and 4 thought about the importance of being kind to each, only sending nice messages. They also learnt what to do if they were not happy about any messages that they received – whistle blowing. Years 5 and 6 through role play created video clips on how to help make the internet a nice kind place, and what to do to stay safe on line producing a Digital Magna Carta. Examples of the work can be found below.
Starz Virtual Learning Environment
Each child at our school has a Starz Plus account and will have been given a login by their class teacher. This login will allow them to access their own account where they can find their own safe messaging centre, blog, e-safety information and lots more.
Starz Plus is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) used by pupils across Cambridgeshire Primary, Nursery and Special Phase schools. It is managed by The ICT Service.
Starz Plus can be easily accessed from our website home page signpost that says VLE login.
ACE (Accreditation of Competence in E-Safety)
The ACE scheme is an age appropriate e-safety programme of classroom activities to help children develop their skills and confidence in the digital world. We are introducing the scheme across our school because we know that even very young children are accessing the Internet regularly and just as in the real world, we want to help children to be risk aware so that they can learn how to take appropriate actions.
The scheme consists of background information, resources and web-links with tasks for the children to complete, passports to monitor progress and achievement certificates Bronze, Silver and Gold.
We believe that it is never too early for young children to start learning how to keep safe.
